8K a year Job Description The Employment Specialist is a unique position designed to advise and support patients in coordinating their rehabilitation plans with other agencies (including private providers, physicians, Division of Family Services, courts, Vocational Rehabilitation, Social Security, school systems, housing authorities, and others) ensuring access to and availability of services to which patients are entitled, acting as an advocate for the patient to satisfy his/her needs and maintain recovery and effective level of functioning.
Assists individuals served to obtain and maintain employment consistent with their vocational goals by following Evidence-Based Supported Employment Principles.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Engage individuals served and establish trusting, collaborative relationships directed toward the goal of competitive employment in community-based job settings with other workers who do not necessarily have disabilities.
Assist in preparing persons for successful employment and retention by identifying individual needs and skills (e.
g.
, practice interview skills, develop a resume, application assistance, provide education on how to be a good employee, etc.
).
Explore and locate new employers to establish relationships and an employer network by conducting cold calls, employer visits, chamber of commerce meetings, local civic organization meetings, etc.
Conduct repeated employer contacts to learn about the needs of the business, describe supports offered by the program, and describe an applicant's strengths that are relevant to the position.
Assist individuals served with obtaining information about their benefits (e.
g.
, SSI, Medicaid, etc.
) and how they will be affected by employment for clients to make informed decisions about employment opportunities.
Refers clients to benefits counseling, as needed.
Helps clients report earnings as needed.
Assess a person's vocational functioning continuously, utilizing background information and work experiences.
With the patient's permission, it provides education and support to family members.
Discuss individuals served preference for disclosure of psychiatric, substance use, and/or legal status to employers.
Provide individualized long-term support to assist individuals served in maintaining employment.
Write treatment plan goals with individuals served, incorporating input from the behavioral health team.
Adjust treatment plan according to individual's needs and preferences.
Provide education and support to employers as agreed upon by the individual served, which may include negotiating job accommodation and follow-along contact by the employment specialist with the employer.
Provide outreach services as necessary to a person served when they appear to disengage from the service.
Uses a variety of methods to provide outreach.
Provide timely interventions.
Returns phone calls and reacts to situations on time.

Contact employers about job loss or job problems within 24 hours.
Follow up on job leads within 48 hours.
Meet with clients within one week before the job starts and within three days after the job starts.
) Participate in weekly meetings with the ICTS treatment team and communicate individually with team members between meetings to coordinate and integrate employment services into treatment.
Educate ICTS team members on the importance of employment in recovery; ensure the Employment Specialists are valued treatment team members and their expertise is recognized.
Understand the value of employment to recovery and proactively educate others on the importance of employment.
Spend 65% or more of scheduled work hours in the community.
For example, meets clients at community locations such as home, workplace, coffee shop, meeting with potential employers, library, One-Stop, VR office, family home, etc.
, or takes clients to apply for jobs, investigates local GED or colleges, etc.
Provide supported education, using principles similar to supported employment, for clients who express interest in education to advance their employment goals.
Complete monthly ICTS reports.
Follow agency policies and procedures, including ethical conduct.
Maintain professional boundaries with consumers, staff, and other stakeholders.
Complete other assigned duties.

Qualifications:
Must possess a valid driver's license and remain insurable under the Gibson Center for Behavioral Change automobile liability insurance.
Must be able to pass a background check or request an exception to the findings.
Must have good communication skills, basic computer abilities, and knowledge of community resources.
Education and experience equivalent to an associate degree with earned credit hours in one or a combination of the following:
Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Counseling, Nursing, Public Health, Education, Business Administration, Public Administration, Health Care Administration, Criminal Justice, Biology, Chemistry, or a closely related field; and Professional experience in supported employment, mental health, public health, environmental health, education, social services, adult corrections, probation and parole, public administration, business administration, or a closely related area.
Or A Certified Peer Specialist qualified to work in the Missouri Department of Mental Health system, and Professional experience in supported employment, mental health, public health, environmental health, education, social services, adult corrections, probation and parole, public administration, business administration, or a closely related area.
